I wish I was kidding here, but in the 2016 Republican Platform, there is an approved amendment that calls for the teaching of the Christian bible in all U.S. schools as a historical document.
They do love to ignore the separation of church and state when it applies to things they like but ignore it when they want to discriminate against the LGBTQ community.
Obviously, no one is saying students can’t bring their bibles to school, or talk about their bible with other students. However, public schools have no business teaching the bible to students as historical, since we know for certain that it is not.
It is rather surprising that the platform does not call for a ban on marriage equality, even though it does seek to make sure the language of marriage is used only to describe the union of “one man and one woman.”
I guess that’s baby steps for the conservatives? Perhaps they know this is a battle they cannot win.
They also call pornography “a public menace” that is harmful to children.
News flash: so is conservatism.
